Bad Eating Habits Lead to the behavioral changes and can sparkle inflammation

Eating more than you need to, also called overeating, can be a self perpetuating habit that can lead to disastrous consequences. Moreover, the habit can lead to events that could impede the normal flow of signals that the body uses to show when it needs food and when it does not need food anymore. This can result in further consequences, such as the spreading of inflammation, the appearance of chronic diseases such as heart attacks, diabetes or arthritis and even cancer. The food choices that people make can inflict changes and then lead to consequences not only to one’s health but also in one’s behavior and the way the people approach food practices.

Studies published in an issue of a popular scientific magazine have shown that certain cells in the brain are brought to life when the desire to overeat is active. The hypothalamus represents a gland in the form of a cone, that is about the size that the almond has, which is linked to the pituary gland and is connected to the brain stem. The organ can launch a mechanism capable of allowing the body to maintain homeostatis, that is the tendency of the human body to regulate the thirst, fatigue, blood pressure, body temperature, hunger, anger, water balance, sexual desire or the circadian cycles. Thus, the hyphotalamus gland is pretty important in ensuring that basic functions of the body can function at normal parameters. The nervous system as well as the endocryone one can also communicate with one another through the almond gland, called the hypothalamus.
Moreover, it should be noted that a certain protein should be present in the hypothalamus gland in large quantities. It is called the IKKbeta/NK kappa B protein, but it is not released in the body tissues. What is does is to be designed for macrophages and the leukocytes present in the blood system as well as being able to trigger some form of inflammation in the body. If a comparison could be made, it is like using the immune system to attack and destroy some kind of invader which is not actually there. Researchers have speculated the fact that this occurrence could be a remnant from the body processes that were involved years ago when man wasn’t so involved but which has since lost its function.

In the modern days however, a different sort of a mechanism can activate the process. A diet high in fat components can release the IKK beta NK kappa B from the hypothalamus. An experiment was done when mice were fed high fat diet and the process was observed to be occutring by the researchers. Moreover, the process was even more lasting in the case of mice that had a tendency towards contracting obesity. The release of the protein had resulted in creating resistance to the insulin and leption extract. If a resistance to these hormones is created, then the person suffering from this condition can contract diabetes or heart disease in the future. Researchers believe that this tendency towards developing heart disease or diabetes has something to do with overeating. In a similar fashion, inflammation as well as obesity are related and linked to one another.

Leptin represents an active ingredient in that it helps regulate appetite, the reproductive function as well as metabolism. The hormone is also responsible with regulating appetite intakes, the flow of insulin in the food and can help convert the food into energetic pieces. Leptin is produced by fat cells and allows the body to shut off whenever too much has been eaten or when there is not enough physical energy consumed. The leptin can also regulate insulin. For instance, during night time when the body is recovering itself, the levels of leptin are decreased and melatonin is released in the blood.

Insulin on the other hand, represents a hormone created by the pancreas and has function in stimulation the cells to obtain glucose and put an end to the use of fat as the main energy source of the body.

It should also be noted that in leptin can be found circulating through the blood in large quantities. The IKK beta can even cause leptin resistance; a study was conducted with mice and the researchers found out that when the protein was being active, the mice’s bodies ignored the signals received from the leption component. When this release was stimulated, the mice could eat more which could then lead to the so called overeating stage.

If the gene is removed, or knocked out, then the factor that had been controlling the overeating process would stop and thus the mice could then start eating normally, which could as a result, reduce their obesity if the result is maintained for a long period of time. High fat diets are the ones behind the overeating habit and this is something that people need to work on to obtain the results that they are envisioning.

The final result would be to successfully identify some sort of suppressor of the pathway that was discussed and be able to use it by targeting the neurons. Researchers indeed believe that even drugs or gene therapy could work in a successful way.

By using gene therapy, a virus could then carry the DNA with correcting properties into the body but this method is still in the works. Some groups of scientists are extremely skeptic when it comes to implementing these facts. They believe that if drugs are used to intervene in the natural flow of the process, then something detrimental to the health of the patient will occur and thus, the treatment will be interfering with the immune system.
As it is the case, not all the fats available can stimulate the pathway and interfere with it. In the majority of cases, the mice that were on a diet similar to the one recommended by the SAD regulations were having problems. The diet in the discussion is one laden with saturated fats and carbohydrates that interfere with the body’s normal functions.

Studies at UC Irvine have pointed out that another mechanism could be the one behind hunger. For instance, the oleic acid, that is unsaturated fat, which can be found in olive oil, nuts or avocados could trigger some sort of compound called the OEA up into the small intestine and then create hunger pangs from there. The fact is that the oleic acid can affect the cells located in the upper regions of the intestine is partly due to the fact that OEA can activate the endings of the nerves which carry the signal to the brain. The nerve endings that are activated then carry the message that hunger is impeding to the brain and thus, the brain will get the idea that the body needs nourishment. However, if the OEA levels are increased to a certain amount, then the hypothalamus will start signaling the brain that the person is full and that there is no longer any need for food. Thus, if high OEA levels are reached then the person can then reduce appetite, actually start losing weight and benefit from low cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

The choice of foods that the person has besides consuming fat can also play a vital role in determining whether there will be an inflammation reaction in the body or not. Consumption on a regular basis of the anti inflammatory foods will certainly lead to the reduction of inflammation levels in the person’s body.
